Wat Arun, Bangkok

Arun Wat3

A recycled temple

Wat Arun is maybe the most stunning temple in Bangkok, decorated as it is with porcelain shards and sea shells. The Buddhist shrine has existed at least since the 600’s, but it got it’s present shape with the spires in the beginning of the 1800’s.

From where they got the porcelain? It was used as ballast in boats coming to Bangkok from China!
